HOME

This page is dedicated to true Spectrolite from Finland.  We like it better than ordinary Laboradorite because the colors are richer  and because of the coppery reds and golds that frequently appear in the pieces.  We are selling a number of cut pieces that will make beautiful additions to custom jewelry and we are selling the rough that creates the cabochons, your choice.  We also have some Laboradorite rough if your preferences are different than ours.
If you are not familiar with Spectrolite it is sodium calcium aluminum silicate with a Moh's hardness of 6 to 6.5.   It is platy and prismatic and has a very directional show of color.  If you are not familiar with this concept please visit our web page that explain "directional play of color" as it applies to opals for more detail.   This will give you the concept of the color play in this Spectrolite and how visible it is.  Click Here to visit the Directional Play of Color Page.
Art jewelers frequently use this material because of the electric almost metallic colors that play from the surface depending on your angle of view.   Additionally there are lines in the surface that many use to create "pictures" within their cabochons.  Frequently resembling organic components such as trees, radiating light and abstract angular creations these create great interest within the cabochon itself contributing to the overall design of the jewelry piece.  Buy one of these beauties and let the stone dictate its setting to you.
If you would like to own one of these cabochons, but are unable to set it yourself, we will be happy to create a custom jewelry design just for you.
