Archaeologist's Dream SOLD
$ 45
Archaeologist's Dream is part of an on going series of pieces that we do called Conversation Pieces.  So named because there is a story behind each piece.   In this case the story deals with the ancient looking bead that is the central focus of the piece.  This bead was created in Fimo from a mold of a bead from a grave site at Belize that would be many hundred years old.  The Belize bead rests on a pi or "donut" of Chinese turquoise.  The other two beads are handmade and handpainted ceramic beads.  The metal component is copper etched with an authentic ancient Mexican design and colored with heat and patinas to create an authentic "old" look.  The copper has been lacquered to prevent tarnish.  The pieces are strung on a length of man made black cording.  The copper component measures 64.26 mm x 31.37 mm from the top of the bail to the bottom of the piece,   and the turquoise "donut" measures 28 mm in diameter.  The imitation leather cord measures 31" from the top of the first bead, around and easily slips over your head.  Join the ancients or just look as if you had!

Who Who X SOLD
Who Who X is a part of the Conversation Piece Series and was created to resemble the ancient artifacts found in Europe that have become known as "owl beads" or "eye beads."   These were ancient amulets that have been found at numerous archaeological sites depicting a simple anthropomorphic creature with large eyes etched into the surface of the material.  In most cases the material was stone, but it was sometimes bone, or wood and eventually pottery was decorated with this symbol.   It is guess work as to what the "eyes" were actually intended to represent and many guesses exist in archaeological theory at this time.   We have chosen to adopt the theory that the figures were intended to be owls and call our creations owl beads.  This is one of many interpretations that we have done of the owl bead.  Click to see the enlarged version where the owl eyes will be easier for you to see.   The owl bead is hand fabricated and painted by us and is ceramic.  The pi or "donut" is turquoise and the two beads are brass beads.   All are mounted on an imitation leather cord.  The owl bead measures 41.06 mm x 21.42 mm and the donut measures approximately 32 mm in diameter.    The cord is approximately 20" long with its catch.  Join the ancients and form your own idea about the meaning of the eye bead!

Artful Offerings
$ 12
Artful Offerings are an earring pair from our Conversation Pieces line of  jewelry.  The clay beads were fabricated, fired and painted by us.     The beads were fashioned to resemble an artifact that was found in Europe.  The use of the original figure is open to speculation.  The figure was approximately 10 inches high and was made of stone.  We have attempted to replicate the look and expression of the original piece in clay.    The largest bead is a stone bead made of jasper which was one of the first materials mined by ancient man for his own use.   The colorful small beads are glass Venetian beads from the African trade that are known as Christmas Beads because of their bright colors.    These particular beads were sold to us as antique trade beads that are at least 100 years old and were bought from Africa.  The earring findings are made of sterling silver.  The ancient Egyptians believed that the skeletons of the gods were made of silver.  If you are into amulets with historical symbology then these earrings are for you!  We believe they are a nice compliment to any of our Conversation Piece jewelry line.

Christmas Bead Dangles
$ 35
Christmas Bead Dangles are intended as a celebration of the colorful glass venetian beads known as Christmas beads because of their array of bright colors.   These particular beads were originally made in Venice and were traded in Africa becoming known as trade beads.  These beads were sold to us as antique beads that are at least 100 years old coming from a source that is buying the original trade beads in Africa and selling them back to our market.  We are aware that similar imitation beads duplicating these are available for sale new at this time.  We can only pass on what we were told when we bought them.  We have strung them on wires and mounted them on a patinated copper base that has been lacquered to protect the finish.  Overall they are quite colorful earrings.  Not for the timid wearer!  The earrings measure approximately 73.62 mm from the top of the copper piece to the bottom of the lowest bead.  The copper piece is 21.36 mm wide.
