There are two places on the back that show a little matrix one on the back and one on the top under-edge making a small "dip" in the edge of the stone. Neither is visible from the top or sides that will be exposed in a bezel and will not bother you at all.

They are not solid little bit or this one just would not be for sale. This one would qualify as a thick natural doublet. The base is black and the opal most resembles the photos taken over the white background on my monitor.
