CONFETTI OPAL™
The most exciting opal material to enter our market in many years is here. Confetti Opal ™ is an opal with bright bits of opal and play of color enclosed in a black to brown basaltic matrix which originates in Mexico. Confetti Opal™ is unique in all the world and found only in one known place in Mexico. The exact location of the mine is a closely guarded secret. Confetti Opal ™ has pieces of white, blue and various colors of opalized material scattered throughout the matrix in vesicles, or little cells, along with very bright bits of play of color in various sizes. You have never seen anything like these opals before. They resemble some of the Boulder opals from Australia with pieces of opalized material and play of color embedded in a matrix. Unlike the boulder ironstone base, however, the base for our Confetti Opals ™ is a usually very black to brown basalt. Confetti Opal ™ has pieces of opalized material of various colors in varying amounts and the play of color is in the various sized pieces as well. The Confetti Opal™ is not like the Honduran basaltic matrix material which tends to have almost exclusively glitter like play of color in matrix. Confetti Opal ™ is an entity unto itself and we are privileged to bring it to you exclusively in the United States.
These opals come in various grades and prices. Grades are loosely determined by the size of the included opal pieces, the amount and brightness of the play of color, the color of the basaltic matrix which can be quite black to brown, and the amount and number of other inclusions visible in the matrix. Have a look at the photos below. We will be adding photos and additional cabochons as quickly as we can. If you do not see the size that you are looking for, just let us know. We have the rough and will be happy to cut a cabochon especially for you to meet your specifications. Please let us know if you have questions.
We are not selling the rough material at this time only the cut opals.

Black Beauty is a fantastic example of a Mexican CONFETTI OPAL™. The matrix here is black the opalized material is predominantly blue in the vesicles with play of color in showing dominant blue and green with purple, red and some yellow flashing from the surface here and there. Definitely a true prize that anyone would love to own. We have treated the stone with epoxy to fill the tiny pits on the surface of the stone, then repolished the opal to remove the epoxy from the surface of the cut opal leaving the epoxy filling the pits. It is certainly not absolutely necessary to do this, but we like the appearance of the surface of the stone without the pits.

Rainbow Blizzard Mexican Confetti Opal™ Cabochon is so named because there are so many little opalized particles on this piece that it reminds me of the amount of snow visible in a blizzard. There is one big difference, of course, there are bright bits of play of color bouncing off the surface as well. On this particular piece there is a bright broadflash rainbow on a part of the surface that shows in certain orientations. I have not succeeded in photographing it, but I promise you that it is there. This is a nice sized piece and it will make a great pendant.

This beautiful black pear shaped opal has a brown matrix line that crosses the stone in the lower half of cabochon almost diagonally. The play of color is also in the line in places and it is not very visible under normal conditions, but it is there. The matrix is quite black and the rainbow play of color shows a dominance of green coloration along with the balance of the rainbow colors. If you have wanted one of the larger nice high domed stones this is your chance to have one at a reduced price.
