African Opal Cat's Eye Cabochons

The opal cabochons or cut stones found on this page are from
African opal rough. These opals all demonstrate a "cat's eye" or the
chatoyancy phenomenon. This phenomenon is caused by the source of light
striking lines or fibers in a lapidary material. As the cabochon is rotated the line
or "cat's eye" moves across the stone. We are considering stocking this

definite chatoyant effect. The opal is shown above over different backgrounds to
show the effects that the background has on the color of the cabochon. This one is
silky with some inclusions.

lemon, a beautiful bright yellow to grace your designs. A nice chatoyancy is quite
visible in the opal. The cabochon is slightly silky and does have some inclusions.
