HOME
Gold Rush Jewelry is a lapidary/jewelry
internet business owned by Doc and Liz McKay of Indian Mountain, Park County,
Colorado. We operate from our home/studio high the Rocky Mountains of
Colorado. At 9,700 ft. elevation, we have the "highest" jewelry/lapidary
studio in the United States.
Our area of specialization is opal and the
creation of custom jewelry. Some people find it odd that we sell Opal from the heart
of Colorado. We do not think so. Ninety some-odd percent of the world's
precious opal material is found in Australia, as most of the world's emeralds come from
Columbia or all of the world's tanzanite comes from Tanzania. The miners sell their
finds to others, either intermediaries or brokers or to dealers, like us. We buy the
best quality rough that we can locate, cut it
and offer the cabochons or jewelry for sale to the public via our web site
at the best prices we can. We try to keep some stock in all price
ranges. This opal material is created by God, mined
predominately by the Aussies, and, in our case, sold in Colorado. We
sell opals
from Australia, Mexico, Nevada, and sometimes other locations.
We do
also sell opal cabochons, a few faceted
stones, some carvings, a few other lapidary materials in rough and cabochon form,
and jewelry. We also do custom work in all of these areas. The bulk of our business
is custom jewelry including bridal sets and wedding bands. We enjoy creating one of
a kind items for our customers, but we also sell standard jewelry store items. A
sampling of these items is shown on our Jewelry Store Page, but we have thousands of other
items available by special order. We invite you to contact us for information about
any jewelry store type of item that you might desire. We can purchase almost any
available jewelry item that you would normally see in a jewelry store for you and since we
only special order these items we can price them extremely competitively.
For more information about where we
live, see our Personal Photo Album page, for more information about any of our other
activities see the related pages of the web site or contact us directly.
We have areas of the web site that we
devote to information and answers to commonly asked questions. The jewelry related
items will be discussed on the Liz/s Corner Page where you can also find a current price
quote for precious metals. The opal related items will be discussed on the Doc's
Corner Page where you will also find a glossary of opal terms. We also an About Opal
page that will give you some basic information about opal and caring for opal.
We invite you to participate in this
site. You can do so:
1. by sharing. If you are a
knowledgeable opal cutter or jeweler, please share your wealth of knowledge with those of
us who are just learning. If you would care to write a description of how to do
something relating to opals or jewelry and take a few progressive photos illustrating the
process, we will post them on this site.
2. by contacting us with your questions
and comments. We invite your comments. We want to make this a site that shows
you what you want to see, gives you the information that you want, and challenges you to
acquire new skills.
